Final Post

I have created an animation to show my opinion on different sectors of the media course. The animation states what I have enjoyed overall about the media course, what I have found challenging and also what I ensure I do better at A2. I feel like I could have reached my deadlines in a good space of time if I focused more at AS level and I think with knowing how to use all the new technologies like InDesign, Photoshop, etc it will be a lot easier to reach all deadlines. Furthermore, I did enjoy the media course as a whole as it is a way in which I can bring out my writing and creative skills which means in future I have more qualities in which I can use to evaluate and analyse; these may come useful. I like to be given challenges just in order to know that I can confront them and work my hardest to meet the deadlines, however I am a bit dissappointed that I slightly missed my first deadline but I ensure that I will become better and achieve these deadlines when I move on to the next level of media studies as well as focusing more. I think in order to reach deadlines I will have to install the technology on my laptop at home in order that I can continue working from home to reach all of the given deadlines, whether it is research, producing or evaluating a product.

Evaluation Question 7

Looking back at your preliminary task (the school magazine task), what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to full prod?

The mind-map below shows the skills in which I have learnt from the journey from my preliminary task to the full product task. I have briefly explained what was done and what I have learnt during the full process in terms of time management, research and planning, and overall skills or features. I have then discussed the construction and changes took place from prelim to the full product process and compared the two products to each other.

Comparison of Prelim to Full

This shows my prelim front cover on the left and my final full product on the right. I think that my front cover on the left looks more professional in terms of the conventions of colour. I think that the three colour palette looks neater on the page. The prelim task was when I was unexperienced with the technology so it doesn't look as professional as the final product I had made. It is evidently shown that my use of the software indesign has improved because the sell lines are better positioned along with the masthead being behind my models head (right). I think the full body shot is more effective for the audience I was aiming at so that it doesn't look like the female is an object of sexual desire and has her own mind, whereas in my prelim she looks quite feminine and vulnerable. The lighting is clearly better in my full product as it is in the studio and it is using the three set lighting with a light meter and it isn't as dark as that of the prelim task which makes my product look more professional and realistic. With the model it is made clear she is made for my genre as it is wearing stereotypical clothing but also it is well suited to the genre due to the costume and make-up I had played around with, but I didn't have time to do this in my prelim task. Also on this I added a banner so that it looked more professional and took up space but it still looked neat and fit well with the rest of the layout.

This shows my Preliminary Task on the left hand side, and my full product on the right. I think my skills have improved and are shown in this because I have made collages and edits of the images so that it looks realistic and professional as well as picking texts in which resemble that of Kerrang!. I learnt that the layout was important to the product and my prelim evidences that I haven't used any relevant conventions as it is very plain on the page without margins and doesn't look like any of the initial and textual research I had carried out. However, my main task uses the forms and conventions of professional magazines such as Kerrang!. For example I had still stuck to the three colours and also I had used texts which fit the genre. I think the final product looks more professional and like Kerrang! as it is showing the pictures on the left hand side and the text on the left, but it being split up.

Overall I think that my skills had developed a lot from the preliminary task to the production of my full product and I think they will come useful as the course goes on. I learnt how to use InDesign mainly but I also learnt to use online technologies and this didn't consume much time.

Evaluation Question 6

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

The prezi below shows all of the technology in which I have used throughout the production of my product and what I have learnt by using them. I have used the following pieces of technology: MAC, Glogster, Final Cut Express, YouTube, Blogger, Slideshare, Prezi, GoAnimate, Pixton, InDesign, Photobooth, and Camera. The prezi briefly explains what I thought when using the technology and what I have learnt from using it.

Evaluation Question 5

How did you attract/address your audience?

The top magazine cover is the cover in which I have created and the other two are magazines in which had influenced my magazine decisions. These magazines have similar audiences to the one in which I was aiming my product at so I tried to use similar conventions in which these two magazines had.
The first thing in which I have done is stuck to a three colour palette of red, white and black which is often used in kerrang as the rock house-style, but I read more into the colours. I chose black and white to show the music and the artists aren't as black and white as they seem and have their own story, and the red is showing the passion they have in music. I was aiming to have similar fonts to those in the rolling stones and kerrang! and combine them together on the front cover and I think I have reached this target  as they are edgy and effective and apply well to the audience. The clothing of my model shows a difference to those on kerrang and rolling stones but also similarities as they are dressed casually, yet the model I used is more dressed down. I used a quite natural pose but with a unusual prop so that it stands out but it isn't too bizarre and this is what I aimed for in terms of trying to make my product look different. My model is positioned so that you can see her full body and doesn't look like an object of lust to males, but look inspirational to both genders- and this might be where my magazine differs from the others.

One decision I made from all my research was to use fonts that made the magazine look alternative and different to the usual fonts and I found these on dafont.com. I tried to make it look professional by using realistic features such as the price and barcode along the right hand bottom side. I used my initial research of the textual analysis to make my front cover as I made my masthead edgy but clear at the same time, with bright contrasting colours. I called my magazine RIOT so it fit to the genre, just like kerrang and rolling stones does of those magazines. Kerrang! was a huge inspiration in the creation of my front cover as I used similar colours so that it all stands off against each other but I think I could have improved it by using better texts on the front cover like those on Kerrang and Rolling Stones. I changed the inspiration of kerrang! as I decided to use a lot of sell lines like on Rolling Stones but used the edgy style of Kerrang!.

However, I followed the professional magazines by using larger texts for those of the main sell lines and used one main images but few others too. Also the main convention in which stands out is the banner along the bottom with names of other bands and artists. I got this from Kerrang! to show that there is more content and therefore looks more professional.

The first image of a contents page is the one in which I had created, and the other two are those in which I had used as influence during the creation process. The image on the bottom is of NME contents page and the other is of Kerrang! contents page. I tried to use similar layout in order to resemble and create my product based around this.

I have chosen to use the layout similar to those of kerrang and NME with the three colour palette still and using the categorised pages on the right hand side with images on the left hand side. I have used the same three colours as before and chose to use 5 images on the contents page in which are well suited to the magazine and it's genre. I had used category main titles to seperate all the articles from each other just like the two magazines did when I looked at them during the textual research. I chose to use one main image at the top left of the page and then four others in a collage so that the one on its own stands out more and shows the main article.

I carried on the same fonts from the front cover so it all looks like the same magazine and I think it is well suited to the audience as it is large and easy to read, showing there is a lot of content in the magazine. I have got similar texts like those of in Kerrang! so this shows which genre it is part of and therefore will attract an appropriate audience. The contents page images and layout are the only things that would attract the audience as the stories aren't revealed and neither is the language which are two main features so it was up to the shots I had used for images on the contents page.

The top DPS is the one in which I have created and the one below is one from a Kerrang! issue. It is clear that the DPS' are very different in terms of colours. I chose not to do mine black because I don't think it stands out as much as it could do if it was white and using location shots. I used shots of a mixture of locations so that it shows more the life of the artist and therefore would attract people more.

The language was another feature in which I used that is similar to Kerrang!. It is known that Kerrang often uses tabboo language and I thought I would challenge this aspect by using this in my product on the double page spread but I didn't make it all about the swearing language and a attitude. I think I used professional, taboo and colloquial language appropriately as a mix so it attracts a large range of audiences amongst the genre. The poses however are quite natural but aren't something that are normally seen in a rock magazine so it is possible that this could make people more attracted to the magazine I had made.

Rough cuts

This shows my rough cuts. I hadn't completed my rough cuts so I didn't get feedback on them but I have changed a lot about them since I had first made the product. I had changed the colours for one so that I stuck to the three colour palette and I added boxes so certain important parts stood out off the page, and completed with the images it looked more professional. From the rough cut I also added a banner, and more sell lines to fill more space and make it resemble kerrang! and others I research, and I think these changes had paid off.

Evidence of Audience Feedback

The videos above show some feedback from other members of the class on what they think of the product i had made. They have given their opinions on many different sections of the magazine and this is helpful as they are part of my target audience range of 16-24. I have made an animation below to conclude what was said and what I have learnt from this feedback. They have gave their opinions on what draws their attention to the magazine, the strengths of the product, how I could improve my product, whether they would purchase it, and the genre and representation of social groups. From the feedback I have learnt that the product I made could be improved but it was made clear what genre and social groups the magazine represented. I think that it is depends on people's preference in music on whether they would purchase the magazine. I realise that there is a lot of time and effort needed to create a well rounded product and I feel that I have many improvements to be made. In all the audience research the feedback shows that the front cover is the first thing that catches their attention due to the use of images and banners, however it could be improved by using up more space and to change the fonts of the sell lines so that it simplifies it.

The feedback shows :
-The front cover is what attracts the consumers attention first, due to banners and unusual image poses.
-It is clearly representing the rock genre, and this is shown by the rebellious images and magazine name. As well as the font and the heavy make-up on the models.
-The strengths of the magazine would be the images due to the locations.
-It all depends on what the person likes in terms of music on whether they would purchase the magazine.
-Its for indie and rock due to the font use and images, ie. Extinguishing a fire.
-Improvements by filling front cover space and change the font so it looks more tidy & simplistic.

The animation above shows all my feedback that I had got from the two members of my class that I had been marked by. This feedback shows what I could change or improve if I was to do the product and the full task again. I aimed my magazine at both genders for anyone who likes the genre and also they would be between the ages of 16 - 21 and this was made obvious and stated in the feedback given so it shows I have used images, content and text that show this well.

Evaluation Question 4

Who would be the audience for your media product?

I have created an interactive poster to give a visual view into who my target audience is; their preferred music, popular bands and hobbies within the stereotype. The product I created was a rock magazine so most of the image would be of band and artists associated with the genre. Most of the artists or bands would be male as they are more dominant in the rock genre. There are a few female artists such as Paramore and Pretty Reckless in which attract both genders attention as females want to be like them (idolise them) and males are attracted to the female presence. From the research I carried out it is seen the genre is divided into male and females, with a larger proportion of 60% being male and 40% to female. I think that males like idolising powerful and dominant male figures but like seeing females as an object of sexual desire, whereas women respect women and aspire to be like them. My audience is between the range of 16-24 which is a slightly younger audiencebut they would be easily influence by the product. A lot of the audience would play and relate to the artists with their interest in music and new gadgets, so this means they would be influenced and would want to be a lot more like the models in the product.

Evaluation Question 3

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

I have briefly shown the steps of the magazine production in a comic strip I have made. However, they are not shown in full detail so therefore the process isn't shown to full reliability. The first step would be to think of ideas for the magazine; it has to be an idea that would sell to target audience of consumers, which they would then have to do a lot of planning and research for before actually creating the magazine. This would include looking at products that are similar, challenging these and creating ideas on how to make the potential magazine better than the existing ones, such as the features and layout. This means that they are then competing to make their magazine better and persuading people to purchase it.

The next part of creating a magazine would be to do basic flatplans of the magazine and think of issues to go into it so that it is worth the value and price the consumer are willing to pay. However, my flatplans were quite basic and there would be many attempts of flatplans and improvements made before going on to creating the products. The contents must be done as well so there is enough inside; articles, features, posters, photoshoots, bands, interviews, etc. After this is done it would be time to go onto the next step.

The next step would be looking closer into similar competing magazines and the features they use, including the props and poses, as well as models etc. Once all of this is complete, the production of the magazine using technologies and programmes could be used to make the process quick and easy, such as: Photoshop and InDesign. Personally I preferred creating the whole product on InDesign. The design and layout however was changed throughout the whole process.
The magazine would then be fully constructed and ready on a computer screen, but wouldn't be distributed this way. The magazine would need to be posted so that it could get feedback and opinions on the magazine so far, and this would help to improve it. After all this is done then the final product would be ready to print and then they would send it off to a distributor company, most likely a large one so it can be put in popular shops and ready to purchase.A distributor is a company that sends out produced products to smaller companies to sell, and then get a small amount of the profit because they sent them the product.

This is another comic strip in which I did in three different sections to show the distributor part of the process. It explains briefly how the product is given to a large distribution company and then sold off too smaller one's. This is so the consumer can see them and purchase them with the large distribution company getting profit for each product sold, and then giving the rest to the producer of the product.

Due to the fact that the target audience is alternatives, or 'scene kids', 'emos', they are similar to those of Kerrang! which are distributed to mainstream audiences rather than niche. Therefore my magazine is likely to be widely distributed to publishing companies such as Beaur Media Group (who ownKerrang, and Q) and they get a largerr audience. These would then be distributed to places such as HMV, WHSmiths, Tesco, Asda, Morrisons and any other similar shops. My product follows similar conventions as kerrang so it would reach to a similar audience and I could apply techniques of Beaur to my product so it gets distributed.

To advertise my product I would do what Kerrang does to advertise and use a corresponding TV channel, radio station, online sites such as social networking sites like facebook and myspace, and use posters. Due to the audience I think the most effective way would be to advertise via facebook so it reaches everyone especially the mainstream audience. The social websites are the easiest and most popular way of communicating and it would therefore help sell my product. I have also put subscription information on the magazine so that they can get the magazine via post or saved in newsagents. Due to web 2.0 and internet technology it is a lot easier to get recognised via advertisement and therefore would be easier to distibute too. Also there would be pages linking to hobbies, and fashion relating to the target audience and this would interest them more.

Evaluation Question 2

How did you represent social groups?

Above I have created this video in order to answer the question two evaluation. The video shows the general outline and stereotypical view of alternatives, emos, and scene kids. I have tried to replica this in my own product. The video includes text, images and un-copyrighted music of artists that are associated with the genre I was reflecting. The main stereotype of the social groups I have shown is the clothing, and passion for music. To show all this I had created a polyvore image which is also in the video and also I have used google images to show the stereotypical view of emos and scene kids, often referred to as alternatives. Emos stands for 'emotion' therefore the music in their opinion is showing their emotions and I had show this by putting in their genre of music in the video. This is how I tried to represent the social groups in my product.

Evaluation Question 1

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

These are my final products and they have been inspired by Kerrang! and the first convention in which I had noticed during my textual research is that Kerrang! uses the main colours red, black, white and often shades of grey. At first I tried to challenge this convention by using red, yellow and black for my front cover but I found that this didn't look professional and it looked too busy. Yet I then just used this colour convention to my strength and to make it look professional, I then used the three colour choice Red, Black and White. I used these colours for the front cover and the contents page and also on the double page spread so that all the magazine co-ordinated well together. Also during the research of Kerrang!, NME, Revolver and Rolling Stones; I had noticed further features in which all of the magazine had in common. There were banners, freebies of posters, and other similar features all on the magazines I looked at so I decided to use this on both my Front Cover and DPS, this meant that it looked more professional when I used these conventions.

Once again I had used the inspiration from magazines of the same genre to created my masthead but I had also challenged this convention. I had challenged this by making mine look a bit more plain but also edgy at the same time. Here is an example of what I mean:

This shows that my magazine had challenged the conventions by making it so that the models full head is over the name of the magazine but also it challenges the convention by using colour for the masthead instead of black to make it more attention grabbing. I chose this font because it resembles the Kerrang! font and is easy to read, but mainly because I think it is well suited to the genre of the magazine. The name of the magazine 'Riot' shows the genre clearly and is clearly signifying rock as it is easy to remember and it is used in a lot of songs by bands like the blackout.

Also in my initial research I had realised all the photography used in rock music magazines use artists in which are performing or simply singing and therefore this had influenced my decision. I had challenged this convention by using a model in which is well suited to the genre but is using an unusual prop just to make it a bit more interesting. Images in magazines always look like they have emotion and personality in them so I tried to portray this in my shots too by using the pose and lighting as aspects. The costume shows this as my main models are casually dressed but one has piercings, this shows that the models are just like anybody else and also it was easy to do in terms of photography and making them look alternative by the use of make-up etc.

I tried to follow the convention of the layout of the Kerrang! magazine mainly because it is well related to my target audience and it is a popular magazine. I used this mainly because there is a lot on the pages but it doesn't look too overcrowded and always looks neat in terms of layout. Here is the Kerrang! product I looked closely at:

I had tried following the basic layout of both of these in my products by using the front cover banner across the bottom of the page, with a free poster special. I think that by doing my products like this it resembles actual products and I had took some content from kerrang! and based my product around them and I think this has made my layout look neat. The costume and props were also based around artists in which are seen in both Rolling Stones and Kerrang! as it is casual clothing which makes it look like the model is neat in their own body and this therefore would allow the reader to connect with them as they are similar. The two pictures below show the clothing and how they are similar.

The only convention in which I challenged was the use of props, I did this so it looks rebellious like she is about to put out a fire and I think this worked well and effectively signifies the target audience. I used this prop instead of the usual musical instrument and I think that this has made my magazine stand out more and it just overall fits well on the page, but some people may not understand where the idea is coming from.

The written content of the DPS I made was also based on Kerrang! as I read the magazine a lot and this was easy to base my writing around as I knew what forms of language they use as well as what they may contain in an article. However, my article was an interview of a singer of a band. But I am happy with how the layout and the article both played out and this is how they look in comparison with one another.

I chose once again to stick to the three colours. Overall throughout my product I think I have followed the conventions rather than challenging them because this is what my target audience had wanted me to do, as I found out when I asked around. I used the three column and the banner convention on my DPS as well so that it doesn't look as plain but it is tidy and easy to read on the page. I think that the three columns is used throughout kerrang! and works well in the magazine. I used the conventions as they are well liked in existing magazines and I think if I challenged them and tried to use them then this would have ruined my product so I am happy with my overall completed product.

Evaluation Timetable / Details

I have created a timetable for all the evaluation questions in order that I will reach the April 15th deadline. I have decided I will spend equal amount of timing on the different questions that I am going to be answering. However, I created all the posts at once so it doesn't show effectively how long they took to make.

Question 1- In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? (March 15th)

I am planning on doing this at home by doing it straight into my blog, to show effectively using the correct technical terms what I have done during the production to show conventions of a real media product. In my case it would be based on Kerrang! and Rolling Stones. This should take me at least a few hours.

Question 2- How did you represent social groups? (March 18th)

I will create a video using Final Cut Express in order to answer this question and I will do this on March 18th for a few of my media lessons so that it contains the right amount of information and is a short clip that lasts at least a few minutes.

Question 3- What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why? (March 25th)

I am planning on doing some of this question at home in order to get it done quicker, the part I will do at home is the comic strip and the rest of this I will do either at college or home and make a presentation opening it then into slideshare.

Question 4- Who would be the audience of your media product? (March 26th)

I am planning on creating this using Glogster at home, to create a poster to show the audience of my media product. I will do this in terms of showing their visual appearances, what they do in spare time, where they shop, what they lilisten to, etc. This should only take me an hour or so to complete a poster that works; when you scroll over a part of it, it then maxamises.

Question 5- How did you attract/address your audience? (April 5th)

I will do half of this question at home and some at college as it is simply just doing it straight into the blog and therefore doesn't need any specific material to be finished. I have also done a animation to show the findings from my feedback and this wouldn't take long so I will do this at home. Furthermore, I will evaluate this in a simple paragraph also once it is complete.

Question 6- What have you learnt about technologies during the construction of your product? (April 8th)

I will do this at college as I will need the technology in order to make an effective video to show what I have used and learnt about all the technology. I will also evaluate this in a simple paragraph after the video is created. But I can evaluate this at home.

Question 7- What have you learnt in the progression from preliminary task to the full product? (April 14th)

I will either do this as a powerpoint presentation or a prezi so that it is effective and easy to read. I will start this at home and then start doing it at college to because it requires no specific technology or software. I will spend at least a few days doing this.

Final Post- Views on the media blog and the media course (April 7th)

This will only take half an hour or so and I will do this at home before the other questions as it doesn't take a long time and doesn't need to be in the sequence as it is about the overall topic. This is just a simple animation and I will annotate it in a simple paragraph to show what it contains.

Final Products (Evaluation)

This is the final JPEG image of my front cover and I had based it around the research I had carried out on Kerrang! and Rolling Stones but I feel I could have improved my magazine if I worked on it more outside of classes too. I think by looking at my final front cover product that it looks quite professional but I could have used a lot more space where the circular banner is. I had put a banner on the bottom of the page because it seems to fill the page and a lot of magazines especially Kerrang! have a plus banner to show that there is more in the magazine than what the consumer would assume. On my front cover I have used the three main colours red, black and white in which I have continued throughout the magazine. The reason I did this is because most magazines have a three colour palette to make it so it catches the attention of potential customers but also so it doesn't look too busy on the page. I have used mainly text on the front cover just so that it looks like there is a lot of content in the magazine and therefore more people would be drawn into it and purchase it.  I think that the three pictures I have used contrast well with each other because one uses an unusual pose which is rarely seen, and one is a location shot. I have done the images like this so that it is obvious that I put a lot of time and effort into the images as well as the layout. Overall, I like the final product but I think I could improve this mainly by changing the text so it is simple and doesn't look like it has been produced quickly because sometimes simpler is better, I think I should've realised this earlier and changed it.  I think that I should have used photoshop for this part of the product instead of indesign as it would've been a lot easier and it probably would have turned out more professional and appeal more to the set audience. Also I think my magazine cover is effective as it isn't aimed at either male or female and it hasn't singled out any genre as sexual idols, or objects; but as equals which was the plan.

My content page uses the same three colours from the front cover to show the realistic house-style colours. I used the red, white and black to signify that the artists and readers have a passion for music and even though it is seen as black and white, it really is more than that. However, the layout changes as it has a lot of images on the left hand side and a slight bit of writing on the rest of the page. I have done this to split the pages up a bit. I did the contents like this so it looks like those I researched and therefore people would purchase the product as well as seeing how much content there is.  I have done all the images in standard depth of field so that all the models are shown clearly, however I have edited them so that they look slightly different. I combined the four bottom images in a collage on picnik and saved it as a JPEG and I did this to show them with a large border so that they stand off the page. The masthead is still shown on the page to show it is still part of the same magazine but it isn't the most important feature like it is on the front cover, but the sell lines from the front cover have been categorised and shown more clearly. My photography choices were limited due to the lot of contents but I chose one's that would suit the genre more and show it clearly. The models on the contents page are both wearing heavy make-up and this therefore shows the genre as the stereotypical target audience seem to wear a lot of make-up and all of the images relate to the stereotype of the genre and also the music and gig merchandise.

The colours once again are the same as the previous pages because it is following the same house-style. I used these colours for the same reason as before but I am using a simple font for the article/interview so that it is easy to read, with approx a text size of 15 or 16 so that it is easy to read but not to big on the page. I will use one main image on each page, but on the left page it will be a full size image with an added banner with a quote so that its less plain and stands out. However, I haven't used a masthead on the DPS but because it follows the colour scheme, with some of the same fonts it is obviously still part of the same magazine. My photography choice was most difficult for the double page spread because there was a limited choice, and I didn’t know what type of clothing or make-up or overall poses would attract the audience and I didn't know whether to use location shots or not. In the end I decided to do simple locations so that it doesn't look boring but it doesn't look over the top like some magazines do when they are taken in fair ground etc. I feel I could have improved this by using more quotes to split up the text and maybe little images across the bottom of the right hand page to take up more space. But overall I am pleased with my products.

Final Products

Front Cover

Contents

Completed DPS
Above are my JPEG images of my final products I have created. I have based these products around the stereotypical rock genre and aimed it just to this specific group.

Thoughts so Far, Edits Needed

I think that my products need editing slightly because the pictures look too over stretched and it doesn't look as professional as what I was aiming for. The main problems are on the front page, and slightly on the DPS. I think that the three pictures on the front cover are to over-stretched and they are not looking very clear so need editing so that they look like they are the right size and are well suited on the page. On the DPS I think that the left side page is fine but the right side page needs a few adjustments. I think that I need to reduce all the text by a font size and widen the picture so that it doesn't look over squashed like it does now. After doing this and the edits to the front cover I think I will be happy with my product. Yet, I don't think it resembles any of my previous research, except from the use of a house colour and a 3 colour palette.

DPS edits

I have edited this picture like this in order to get it to look bolder with a border on and I have also included a quote from the article in which I thought suited the location I had taken the shot in. I have used the quote 'I would be living in a ditch performing for people who couldn't give a s***' I used this because the model is sat on the ground infront of a wall showing she is rough and edgy that didn't have much of an upbringing that people would expect from a rising star. Basically by this image use I am trying to show that the artist is just like everybody else and I think it is a good pose because you can see the model fully and it shows she isn't wearing anything over the top and is just natural but with all the dark make-up just so she looks like a 'rock-chick' I had got this from my original idea of using someone who was dragged up instead of raised and instead of it showing attitude it is showing the nature of it all which I think is effective. I am going to use this on the top of the page because I think it stands out nicely.

Content Page Edits

I have used a collage for the bottom image so that it is then well framed and it shows some of the magazine articles all together instead of seperate and I think it generally looks tidier. I have decided to edit the image on the top left so that it is black and white just so it is more effective. I used a red border so it sticks to the 3 colour palette house style I chose and it will stand up off the white background. The images are all showing different catergories of my magazine and that is why I put all four together so I could put captions underneath and then make it clear that they are all aimed at certain articles.

Bottom Image for Contents Page
I have edited this so that it also has a border, yet I didn't edit the actual image because I thought the lighting and layout looked nice as it was. This once again shows it as the main image but I put the caption of 'access all areas pages13-14' so that it stands out off the background. However I think this could be improved because the writing isn't well seen against the tree as it is dark, and the writing is quite light.

Images chosen for DPS

For the top of the left hand page
I have chose this image because it is in the right angle and layout for the DPS. I think that this would suit the article page because it fits just above the writing and it shows the naturality behind all artists and also it shows the stereotypical pose, clothing and make-up. I thought that this would be an interesting shot as the model is sat in a pile of leaves and looking down with black eyeliner on and skinny jeans. I thought that if I used this then it would be more effective and well suited to the genre. I chose this because it makes the model look mysterious and like there is a story behind her sadness and a story behind her life. I think that it would catch the attention and make them want to keep reading.
For the right side page
I chose this as the full page spread image because I didn't think anyone else would think of an idea like this and I think it looks artistic and creative. I chose this because it shows the model clearly and it was just an unusual way in which a rock model would pose but at the same time it is effective and would attract the audience to her because she is different to all the other models you see on a double page spread. I chose this mainly because it was unique and I thought it looked 'rock-chick' but also natural.

Images chosen for Contents Page

These are the images in which I have chosen to use for the contents page because I think they are all well suited to the genre and have used good lighting, with the image of the models and products shown clearly. I will create edits of the images so that they are in a collage and not all seperate, I will do this so that they are shown in borders and stand out more, and so that my product contrasts with others of the same genre.

To Show Merchandise, The 'Claim Your Band Merch' Sector
I have used this image of t-shirts from previous concerts and gigs so that it clearly shows that the people who purchases the magazine can win merchandise like this. I chose to use this type of image because it would interest people to buy the magazine if there is a chance they would win free band merch. I am going to use this in a collage to show the page on 'claim your band merch' and I will do this so that it catches the consumers attention.

The poster special part of the Contents Page
I have chose to use this image on the contents page as well as the front page because it is showing a model that is posing but it isn't as well suited to the genre because she isn't wearing rock make-up or clothes but it shows that the magazine is aimed out to anybody not just the stereotypical audience. I have chosen to edit this into black and white instead of colour so it looks like a sophisticated poster and so that it stands out. I will use this as the 'poster special' and it will also be shown in the collage with the page number underneath.

To show the album review section
I have chose this image to show the consumers passion in music as well as the 'album review' section. I think that this will go in the collage once again with the page number underneath. I chose to do an image like this to show that the magazine is mainly about music and it can relate to anyone in which has a passion in music, or music is their life. I think to improve this I could have done it so that there wasn't a slight shadow and so the CD's look better laid out on the shelf, making the photograph better.
The get the Rock Style part of the contents page
I chose to use this image as it is showing the stereotypical view of the target audience as the model is wearing heavy eye-liner and has piercings, often referred to as snake bites. I am using this in the bottom collage on the contents page under the page of 'get the rock style' as it would attract females to wanting to get the style of the rock models and fit into the genre better. I think that the lighting however could have been improved as it looks over exposed because the models nose can barely be seen.

To show my DPS, Access All Areas
I chose to use this image because it has good lighting and it is in a natural location with the model having the stereotypical make-up. It shows a female model doing a rather unusual pose and looks like she is shouting, which shows the 'RIOT' part of the magazine. Basically I chose this image because it is well suited to the magazine and it will encourage people to shine and show their own passion in music because it is possible for anyone. This will be show as the image for the main article on the DPS of 'access all areas' and I will edit this so it has a title underneath but it is seperate to the other images so that it stands out more.

Images chosen for Front Cover

Front Cover, Main Image
I had used this as the main image because the model is using an unusual prop and this would be eye catching to the target audience. I used this model because she is wearing the colours in which fit into my three colour palette and is wearing the stereotypical clothing of the target audience; she is wearing a band tee and the make-up in which the target audience wear. I used this because the image is well lit and the model is shown clearly with an unusual pose which is eye-catching. I think to improve this the model could have pulled a facial expression such as screaming. I think the fire extinguisher makes it seem as though she is about to put out a fire and therefore shows rebellion and suits the magazine name 'RIOT!!'

Little Poster Image

I used this because it is a simple pose yet it shows the model more closely and it shows the models make-up and piercings which makes her suited to the genre. I chose this because the pose looks like she didn't expect the photo being taken and this is what may interest people into a poster. I will use this as a small image for a poster because it isn't anything special but it does fit well with the front cover overall and doesn't look over stretched which is one reason I had chosen this image.

To show the other little poster inside
I used this image because the model is using a pose in which she is hiding one side of her face slightly and I think this shows that anyone fits into the genre and it is suited to anyone. I think that if I use this as a small image on the front cover more people would buy it as people like artists which pose and this looks like a kind of lady gaga pose mixed with taylor momsen and I think that it is well suited in the magazine with a homely background. If I was to edit this then I would use it in black and white so that it is different and would look more like a poster of the right genre.

Double Page Spread Photography

This is a photoshoot in which I had done near my home area in a graveyard, however I didn't want the graveyard aspect so I used the wall behind it. I had took pictures during light time so that the lighting was decent and I think that the photographs had turned out well and I will chose and analyse the chosen images in which I am planning on using, but the one's I am not going to use will not be analysed. I went for the rock look, but also with the natural side and that is why I had used the model I did and not took the hair, make-up and clothing to extremes.
