Costume and Props

In my magazine the costume and props are going to be fairly simple because the rock/alternative don't really wear anything thats overly patterned, or unique. The models I am using are going to be wearing the usual fashion trends that are out now with the 'rock' type. I have decided that my models will be wearing the simple style clothing including skinny jeans, hoodies, and vests, or logo tees. I have decided that my female models are all going to be wearing different styled clothing so it shows all the alternative fashion trends in the genre, and shows that you don't have to fit in and can create your own style in order to stand out from the crowd. The two male models I have chosen are going to be wearing similar clothes however, just the ordinary hoody, and jeans. I have chose these types of clothing to show that celebrities, and people in magazines are just like everybody else and chose to live this way for a reason with the way they act and dress. The pictures below show similar clothing of famous rock, alternative musicians avril lavigne and christopher drew ingle, they have influenced my costume decision, and also the hair and makeup in a way.

The model in which is going to be on the front cover of my magazine is going to be influenced by the style of 'the pretty reckless' Taylor Momsen. The look is shorts, with a long top so it oozes sex appeal. I am going to base my main model on her because she is very big in the music industry and it is clearly showing the genre of my magazine. And also with this costume I am going to use a guitar as a prop so it looks as if the model is a professional musician thats hitting it big. I think that because my model is going to resemble a famous rocker then they will be interested in buying the magazine, and also with the top it could be crazy and combined with the makeup and props it would make the audience member want to purchase it and read further into it. This is the sort of image I want my model to resemble as I think it will stand out and attract the readers attention.

The male models however I want to wear clothing such as vests, and skinny jeans. I think that this would show the true style of rock, alternative music because it shows they can dress in anyway they like but change it ever so slightly to make their look unique. For props I was thinking of asking one of the male models to stand on the amplifier in order to show the passion, daring attitude towards the music. The two male models are of very different appearance so one male is going to be wearing just a tee and the other a hoody, but both wearing jeans. However I think I might take a few shots and change the clothing around ever so slightly to show them moving to the next step. Possible costume looks:

Bullet For My Valentine (BFMV)
Bring Me The Horizon (BMTH)

I will make it so that all the models feel comfortable in what they are wearing, and I will also make it suit their make-up and general look. This is so that the people reading will see how comfortable they are and it may be inspirational and more people will might read the magazine for fashion advice, or updates. The clothing is all in fashion with the 'rock, alternative' genre as well as other original people and even those not up to date on fashion, it shows that its an alternative all around look and this is why I have chosen to portray the models wearing these clothes. I have even decided on relevant jewellery as well that would go with the clothing in order to make it look professional and fully suited to those reading. However, I wouldn't make the clothing overly bold because this would take attention away from the main features of the magazine, but I would make it bold enough to be seen as important.

I was planning on doing some tattoo designs on a few of my models in order to show the rock part of the magazine, and so that they look edgy and tough. I was planning on doing tattoos inspired by both 'Kat Von D' or 'Oli Sykes' depending on the gender of the model. The make-up however won't be overly heavy on most of my models to show that they don't have to look tough to fit in and they are showing they are just like anyone else. A few of the female models will be wearing dark eyeliner, and eyeshadow in order to show the alternative look and I have used a few images in order to show the look I am going to be using on a few of my models.
